is Professor of Aesthetics of the Faculty of Philosophy, University “Jean- Moulin” Lyon 3 and senior member of the Institut Universitaire de France. He has studied and taught in Italy and abroad. Founder and co-editor of the journal «Chiasmi International. Trilingual issue around the thought of Merleau-Ponty», he is internationally considered one of the most important specialist of Merleau-Ponty’s philosophy, to which he has dedicated, among the other volumes, La visibilité de l’invisible: Merleau-Ponty entre Cézanne et Proust (Olms, 2001) e The Thinking of the Sensible, Merleau-Ponty’s A-Philosophy (Northwestern University Press, 2004) e La chair des images: Merleau-Ponty entre peinture e cinéma (Vrin, 2011). Afterwards he has more and more widened his researches to the more recent philosophical production of French inspiration, trying to extend its reflection in an autonomous theoretical elaboration. Among his latest works, Una deformazione senza precedenti. Marcel Proust e le idee sensibili (Quodlibet, 2004), which has obtained, ex aequo, the first prize “Viaggio a Siracusa”, Essere morti insieme. L’evento dell’11 settembre 2001 (Bollati Boringhieri, 2007), as well as Sullo schermo dell’estetica. La pittura, il cinema e la filosofia da fare (Mimesis, 2008), winner (ex aequo) of the first prize “Maurizio Grande” as best essay on cinema published in 2008. Since 2002 he has been editing the series «L’occhio e lo spirito» for the publisher Mimesis of Milan.
