Elisa Guzzo Vaccarino, The classic gesture in dance, between West and East

In our humanistic-scientific tradition, beauty is gold proportion, harmonic shape, established, objective. The philosophy which founds the classical occidental art, from painting to architecture and to literature, corresponds to this concept, which is valid also for academic ballet, at the basis of romantic masterpieces such as “Swan lake”.
Here the author investigates that theatrical invention that juxtaposes the pantomime, the dancing playing, the personal virtuosic skill, the universal symbolic codes of balletic gesture, which divides between abstract and narrative as it happens, moreover, even in the thousand-year-old oriental classical dance, while our academicism is only centuries-old.
